Foldable smartphones have recently gained traction in recent years, with many big-name brands bringing a whole new level of innovation to folding features and their format. This time, Honor has stepped up their game with a debut of their flagship foldable phone- the Honor Magic V. The Honor Magic V specification mixed with a foldable feature is a serious game changer and notably among the first ever to exhibit the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which happens to be the most recent and stupendous chipset on the market.

Design

Several options are available when picking out a design for the Honor Magic V since it comes available in 3 colors including Black, Burnt Orange, and Space Grey. Furthermore, the back panel of the smartphone can be either a glass or eco-leather finish, with the glass finish only available in Black and Space Grey while the leather finish is limited to the Burnt Orange color.

Throughout the back is a sleek and elegant design with a hint of Honor logo branding, which adds a touch of color without being distracting.

Display

Given that the Honor Magic V is foldable, the smartphone has two displays. The foldable main display is a 7.9inch OLED panel with up to a 90Hz refresh rate. Thanks to its 10-bit panel, this main display is capable of registering up to one billion different colors. The second display sports a slightly smaller OLED display at 6.45 inches, but comes with extensive features including HDR10+ support and a higher refresh rate of 120Hz. Both displays have HDR10+, which ensures that the smartphone is capable of running any HDR material on any streaming platform without issue.

Performance

The Honor Magic V is powered by the 4nm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, which is the most recent chipset on android. Given the advanced innovations of the processor paired with the latest Adreno 730GPU, the system is expected to output some exceptionally efficient power and solid performance. The internal hardware comes with several performance-enhancing features including GPU Turbo X and AI Rendering Technology, which further improves visual quality for more realistic gaming sessions. The powerful internals ensures a solid and snappy system speed that retains a consistently responsive and smooth performance throughout.

Camera

Given the 50 MP primary camera, the phone can capture some finely detailed images with a surprisingly decent dynamic range. Photos shot on the main camera result with sufficient details and well-balanced color reproduction. Ultra-wide captures even retain some impressive wide-angle views, making it great for capturing large areas. Overall, the colors are exceptionally detailed and consistent, which is a significant improvement compared to most other smartphone cameras. Several special effects, filters, and camera modes are also available in-camera settings, which allow for some creative shots and even 4k captures at 60fps.

Battery

Fueling the powerful smartphone is a tremendous Li-Po 4750mAh battery, which is sure to last an entire day with light to medium usage. Through heavy usage, the battery is enough for use throughout most of the day, which is still sufficient for most users. Regardless, the smartphone comes with a 66W fast charger, which leads to an impressively quick charging time since half of the battery is charged at only 15 minutes.

Conclusion

As far as foldable phones go, the Honor Magic V is a solid contender that is made to satisfy most users. The smartphone essentially includes everything desirable in a foldable phone, including superb specs and an outstanding camera. Especially with the latest and most powerful hardware available, the Honor Magic V is easily among the best smartphones on the market.
